Broome – Staircase to the Moon

A very lazy day today as we discovered where everything is located in Broome. I have also found a place to launch the kayak, where you can drive onto the beach (even kayak tour companies operate from here) – yeah! The kayak is yet to see the water.

The kids are keen to explore Cable Beach which is rated as one of the top 5 beaches in the world. They had a flying visit and grabbed some shells. We will be back to swim and to have a camel ride.
Apart from a little shopping and swimming in the resort pool, we went to a night market and watched the “Staircase to the Moon”. It can only be seen 3 times this month, so we were lucky with our timing. This occurrence is caused by the rising of a full moon reflecting off the exposed mud flats at extremely low tide, creating the optical illusion of stairs reaching to the moon. It was amazing to see the massive crowds watching this natural phenomenon; however there were some low lying clouds that did impact on the staircase - we might try again tomorrow night.

Can you picture the stairs below?
