Fitzroy Crossing

After a long drive from Kununurra (via Halls Creek), we arrived at a small town known as Fitzroy Crossing. It has many one lane bridges approaching the town, so it is a good thing to stop (or else sort out who has the biggest vehicle to go first). Finally the mozzies have disappeared, the humidity has dropped, but it’s still hot!

The main tourist attraction that Fitzroy Crossing is known for is Geikie Gorge National Park. We decided to walk the gorge rather than take another boat ride. Now that was hard work! The track following the gorge was overgrown and the only real way in was a hot soft sandy vehicle track. I think we got about 800m until the kids groans started. We did get some great photos (the gorge has some amazing contrasting colours) until we turned around and piggy backed the kids back to the car. Michelle could of done with a ride too!

Ok, we are tired and hot, it's time to turn around - too hard to smile!

We have just arrived in Broome. It is now time to relax without the long drives.

  1. We had many many ANTS while in Fitzroy Crossing. Did you get to Tunnel Creek?

    1. Hey Andrew, we were lucky no ants or mozzies at Fitzroy Crossing. There was a sign up in the toilet block about the little ants, but it was fine. Unfortunately we never got to Tunnel Creek. We have come straight through to Broome before the peak rush and to hopefully catch up with a friend. Cheers Darren
