Kalbarri

On a perfect winters day of 26 degrees with not a cloud in the sky (sorry if it’s raining in Melbourne) we took off to explore the Kalbarri National Park with friends we had met at Monkey Mia who live in Bayswater. Kalbarri is about 600km north of Perth and a nice, quiet coastal town.

The Murchison River carves its way to the sea through the magnificent red-and-white banded gorges within the National Park that have been carved by the flow some 400 million years ago. First up was Natures Window which provided that perfect opportunity to literally frame a photo using the multi layered sedimentary rock. There was also a great lookout not far away providing an overview of the area.

The elusive family photo that we don't often get

About 11km away we drove to Z bend for our next view of the spectacular gorges. We won’t forget this spot in a hurry as Matt decided to throw a huge tantrum and refused to walk. I think most of the visitors in the park heard us a coming. He did have a little win on the way back with a piggy back.

What better way to spend the afternoon was with a beer and friends fishing at the pier. Hayley proudly caught her first ever fish and went on to catch 3. Amy added to her collection with 2 fish and well I caught 1 fish. I can’t even call it a fish; it looks more the size of a tadpole, but it put up a huge fight (not). The eagerly awaiting pelican managed to get most of the fish that we threw back. I think he did the best as we continued to fish through to sunset (nothing to take home).
Hayley's first fish - well done!

I hope its got a big brother!

Still catching them as we fish into the night

Next up kayaking & more exploring of Kalbarri.
